"How happy is he born and taught The mighty river, the river named "The Father of All Waters" by the ancient ones, began its flow, fed by melting snow and spring rains, far in the north, meandering through open lands, forested hills and flatlands, embracing, accepting the additional merging's and marriages of smaller fast flowing streams and rivers into its womb of watery depths; flowing rapidly, more swollen, becoming boisterous, then vicious as it bludgeoned a path south toward the sluggardly, brown mouth where it would meet the blue/green of greater and bigger waters. Turning, twisting, gouging as the river's turgid flood head pressed south, encountering a resistance from land, the strength of the waters was not to be thwarted by such barriers, but gnawed and masticated a path, a particular path through a particular jutting point of the mainland, severing one part from the other, leaving an Island, separated by a watery slough on one side and bounded by the mighty river on the other; the Island there remaining as witness to nature's forces and giving sanctuary, refuge, to man's most carnal, but loving desires. |
